Ruth Jacobi, age 8..
The people behind the service
Jacobi Group is a specialty insurance brokerage offering coverage for horses and all horse-related businesses as well as for outfitters and guides and high-risk recreation. Over the past 3 decades Ruth (Jacobi) has developed relationships with numerous markets and companies, with some of the best specialty claims adjustors in the industry. Since we operate as a brokerage and not as an agency, our first responsibility is to our insureds and our second is to our companies. Unlike agencies which provide coverage through only one main company (and thereby acting as an agency have their first duty to their company and their second duty to their insureds), we compare company offerings and rates and attempt to sort out the best relative price for each particular applicant. We say relative, because in horse insurance, especially, each company has different medical and surgical endorsements, meaning that there are no absolute "apples to apples" comparisons in the industry - just which product most likely will give you the most for your money depending upon the type, breed, age, value, and use of your horse.
Georgia's horse Murfy in racing days.
Our horse coverage is placed with Admitted companies rated "A" or better; certain high risk recreation activity by necessity is provided by Surplus Lines companies. We do not offer coverage with Risk Retention companies.
The two parties with which you will most often speak are Ruth Jacobi, the principal, and Georgia Brown Braithwaite, her assistant. Ruth grew up in Pony Club and competed on the Eastern circuit in Junior Jumpers and Amateur Owner Jumpers. She owned and operated the first full-power magentic field therapy business at Bay Meadows and Los Alamitos race tracks in California, subsequently selling her equine sports therapy business, Bloodstock Therapy Systems, to a franchisor. Ruth holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Colorado (Boulder) by way of Skidmore. A classical pianist and mezzo-soprano, Ruth always made time in her "normal" business schedule to perform with several symphonies over the years prior to her move to rural Cottonwood in 1999.
Georgia is a native Arizonan, rode gymkhana and later hunters and was a licensed race horse trainer and also a breeding farm vet tech for the largest Arabian breeding farm in the country. Georgia holds a BS in Botany from Arizona State University and an AA in Equine Science from Scottsdale Community College.
They both grow horses and plants. Oddly enough, both Ruth and Georgia share the same month and day of birth, they both laugh with considerable vigor, and they both sound very similar on the phone. Georgia is in charge of renewals, rating, and accounting; Ruth's focus is liability coverage both for equine risks as well as outfitter and guides and high-risk recreation. It has been rumored that the staff says the office runs smoother when Ruth is at the barn, but we are certain that this is just water-fountain gossip.
Come join us in the journey. It's a great ride.
